Sandwich panel fire tests

The film below summarizes the fire tests commissioned by If P&C Insurance and carried out in collaboration with several research institutes.

The tests are based on the ISO 13784-1 standard (Reaction to Fire Test for Sandwich Panel Building Systems – Part 1: Small Room Test) which describes the construction of a room with internal dimensions of 3.60 m x 2.40 m x 2.40 m (L x W x H), with a single open doorway, from sandwich panels, supported by a rigid steel frame.

Certain changes were made to the ISO 13784-1 standard to reflect conditions observed by If engineers during surveys of commercial premises.

Four tests have been carried out on sandwich panels with an insulating core of PIR and sandwich panels with an insulating core of stone wool. In the first two tests, a propane burner situated near the rear corner of the room provided the only fire load. In the second set of tests a wooden crib was placed centrally in the room as additional fuel load.
